Time to Take a Leap…

Hopping around to new jobs is something I’ve gotten really good at. I always thought it was because of my millennial mindset - always needing work to stay fresh or if I felt I wasn’t valued, I would find somewhere else where I was. But as time went on, I realized that maybe these career changes weren’t because I didn’t feel valued. It was because I was trying to find exactly what I was meant to do!

In each job I’ve had, slowly I’ve been able to narrow down what I do and don’t like in my day to day work. Then last year, I stumbled across the term ‘Virtual Assistant’ and I had to learn more. At first, it seemed too good to be true….you’re telling me that I can work from anywhere and do the work I love to do most? I’d tell you that all these sites were lying to me! But the more research I did, the more I felt I was destined to go down this path.

I’ve always excelled at executing tasks and felt more comfortable doing the background work, rather than running a meeting. But unfortunately, in corporate world, the only way to grow is to be in a role where you’re constantly in meetings or running them, working extra hours, and in my eyes, burning out. After finding and learning about the virtual assistant field, I knew I would be able to do the work I always loved to do, while having the flexibility of creating my own schedule and being my own boss!

After building up my business for a few months, I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue virtual assisting full time. Corporate burnout is REAL and as soon as I started my business, my motivation to work for someone else’s benefit really went down. I kept telling myself to suck it up and that I was just in a weird funk with my job. But that wasn’t the case! It was so much more than that. I needed to listen to that intuition telling me I was burnt out and that I needed to give everything I had to my business.

I know a lot of people who can relate to this view of corporate world and feeling like you just don’t belong. If you’re at all considering starting a small business yourself, or feel like you could take a passion you have and turn it into a career, DO IT. I know it’s scary to take that risk but if you never take the risk and do the work, you’ll never know the career journey you were meant to go on!

I know virtual assisting is the path I’m meant to go on and I hope you can find what your destined path is too.

Rooting for you,

Emily
