Why copywriting is my calling

Finding your career path is such a complicated, confusing journey (for most). You’re one of the lucky ones if you knew what your calling was at a young age. I’ve always dreamed about running my own business as I’ve come to realize, corporate life is NOT for me. It took some time to figure out what the focus of my business would be. I’ve dreamed about being a travel blogger for over a decade and for some reason, when I started my business last year, I shot for the clouds instead of shooting for the stars.

I never thought I was good enough with my words and that’s what shied me away from pursuing copywriting when I initially launched my business. But there’s obviously a big difference between the spoken word and the written word. I self admittedly was not blessed with the gab, always stumble over my words, and am terrified of public speaking. But writing….writing is a different ball game. Stories come to life and people are able to get lost in a world other than their own for a little while - it’s truly special.

What is so important for people to know when going into copywriting, is that you don’t always have to have the perfect words, phrases, or jokes. If you are writing about a topic that excites you and your passionate about, others WILL notice! It is so obvious to others when you are passionate and have that spark in your voice whenever you talk about what you do. Once I got this in my head and stopped the negative self-talk and doubts, the world of copywriting felt attainable.

So when this idea of copywriting crossed my mind again, I knew it was time to aim to the stars and start writing about what I truly love, travel.

Travel is one of the greatest gifts that life can offer us and I’m bringing that to the forefront of what I do. It turns out a corporate career path was never my calling - it was the oceans, mountains, foods, and cultures that have shaped my view on life and how I want to live it. Writing about mine and other’s experiences, is what lights my soul on fire and allows me to be my truest, most beautiful self(thank you Glennon Doyle).

Keep pushing through any self doubt and know that you are never the only one on this journey towards finding your calling.

Wandering with you,

Emily
